**************************************************************************** **************************************************************************** * * * OS/2 WARP IDE Drivers with SMART support * * Installation and Usage Information * * * **************************************************************************** **************************************************************************** **************************************************************************** * INTRODUCTION * **************************************************************************** This driver is now a part of WARP V4. It is supplied with your IBM system for use on WARP V3.x if you have not upgraded to V4. It replaces the standard IDE drivers on your system and have the same driver names. You should back up your current versions should you have problems that require you to return to that version. THESE DRIVERS ARE NOT SUPPORTED ON VERSIONS PRIOR TO WARP 3.0. **************************************************************************** * Installation * **************************************************************************** The Installation of these drivers require you to copy them to the OS/2 boot partition of your hard drive. You should be careful to retain a backup copy of your current version of these drivers. The drivers can be installed in two ways. This procedure requires that you already have IDE support installed on OS/2. Method 1: (1) Locate the current OS/2 patition on your hard drive. This is usually C: and will contain the OS2 sub-directory. (2) Copy the driver files onto your hard drive in the root directory. There are two drivers involved. There function is : IBM1S506.ADD : base driver for IDE devices (should always be copied) IBMIDECD.FLT : CD-ROM driver support. (The version on this diskette requires use of the IDE driver above). The drivers in the root directory are discovered and loaded prior to looking in the OS2/BOOT sub-directory. (3) The entries should already be in config.sys, and you should reboot your system to load the new drivers. Method 2: (1) Locate the current drivers on your OS/2 hard drive. You can use the following command : dir \ibm1s506.add /s The command will show you the sub-directory on your hard drive where the driver may be updated. (Remember to make a backup copy of your old driver.) (2) Copy the driver files onto your hard drive in the sub-directory where the previous version was found. There are two drivers involved. There function is : IBM1S506.ADD : base driver for IDE devices (should always be copied) IBMIDECD.FLT : CD-ROM driver support. (The version on this diskette requires use of the IDE driver above). (3) The entries should already be in config.sys, and you should reboot your system to load the new drivers. **************************************************************************** * Usage * **************************************************************************** These drivers replace standard drivers of your earlier version of WARP. The CDROM driver does not need to be installed unless your system contains a CDROM drive. These drivers provide SMART support that can be utilized by other IBM products to monitor your hard drives for potential failures. SMART is part of the IDE hard drives supplied with your system from IBM. This technology resides in the hard drive and the status can be requested by monitoring applications. This driver supports the ability of applications to monitor the hard files that are SMART capable. You will need to check the drivers after installation of service packs and CDROM support diskettes. These installation programs may update drivers with prior versions of these drivers. If you use installation method 2, you should verify that older versions of these drivers are not placed in the root directory of your OS/2 drive. Drivers located in the root will be loaded at boot time rather than the versions located in the OS2/BOOT directory.
