Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 6018, 6269, and 6345 computers for IBM(R) Aptiva(R) 2194 computers version PTKT19A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) for use with IBM Aptiva 2194-xxx systems using the Intel 810e core chipset, this does not include the 2194-23B, 2194-32B, and the 2194-441 as well as IBM NetVista 6018-xxx and 6269-xxx systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, highlight Find, then click Files and Folders. 2. Type pt1z19usa.exe in the search box, Click Find Now. This will locate the pt1z19usa.exe file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the icon for pt1z19usa.exe. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement 5. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PT1Z19US. 6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 8. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PT1Z19US\SETUP.EXE, then click OK. The destination directory should be C:\FlashOS\. 4. Click Next. You will be prompted with a message stating "Setup has finished copying files to your computer. Before you can use the program, you must restart Windows or your computer. Choose one of the following options and click OK to finish Setup." 5. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. 6. Click OK. Wait for Windows to restart. 7. Click Start, then click Run. 8. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\PT1Z19US\QUICKFLASH.EXE. 9. Click OK. 10. Select Client Mode. 11. Click Flash System. Wait until you see a message stating "BIOS Flash Update Successful! You must reboot your system for the changes to take effect." 12. Click OK. 13. Click File, then click Exit. 14. Shutdown and restart your system for the changes to take effect. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- To verify that the BIOS update was successful, do the following: 1. Click Start. 2. Click Programs. 3. Click Access IBM. 4. Click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 5. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver PTKT19.0. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: PTJTxxA is the flash diskette level. PTKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward.
