DESCRIPTION -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Firmware update for Hitachi DVD-ROM drives. EXTRACTING THE UPDATE -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 1. Select Start -> Find -> Files and folders. 2. Type 'dvdflash.exe' (without the '') in the search box then click on Find Now. 3. This will locate the dvdflash.exe file you just downloaded. 4. Double click the icon for dvdflash.exe 5. Place a clean 3.25" 1.44Mb floppy disk in the diskette drive. 6. Press the Enter key to begin extracting the files to the diskette. 7. Click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the dvdflash window to close it. INSTALLING THE UPDATE -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 1. Leave the disk you just extracted in the floppy drive. 2. Select Start -> Shutdown -> Restart, then click on Yes. 3. The computer will boot to the floppy disk and check to see if your system requires the update. 4. If the update is applicable, the program will update the firmware on the DVD drive. 5. After the update is complete, remove the disk from the drive and restart your computer by pressing the power switch and holding it until the computer powers off, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button again to power the system back on. Important NOTE: Updating the firmware on the DVD-ROM drive MAY result in an error like "You cannot play this DVD in this region" when you try to play a DVD movie. To correct this IF it occurs, do the following: BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEPS! 1. Select Start -> Run, type Regedit in the box then press Enter. 2. Navigate the tree to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT. 3. Delete any registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT that begin with the letter 'G'. 4. Play an encrypted DVD from the correct region. (The region you reside in. e.g. "1" for the United States.) Do not use an unregionalized DVD first. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and regulations. Neither party may bring an action under this Agreement more than two years after the cause of action arose. This license is governed by the laws of the country in which you acquired the Programs except that: 1) if you acquired the Programs in the United States, this license is governed by the laws of the State of New York; and 2) if you acquired the Programs in Canada, this license is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario.
