NOTICE!
No warranty or guarantee is given (implied or expressed) for the use of ANY of this data in YOUR gun. This collection of period articles and current items is just that. Any loads or techniques are the opinion of their originator with the equipment and components available AT THAT TIME.

NOTE:  Components may be reformulated, equipment redesigned, different standards adopted, and dimensions in each individual gun may be different due to tolerances. Good reloading practice is to start with published data and if needed, contacting the component or gun manufacturer.

Note: Ever wonder why the 40 calibers always mention how they stack up against the .41 Mag? Performance issues?

Contact me at this ADDRESS if you wish to correct, add to, or provide information related to the .41 (mostly .410) calibre cartridge.

"Your #40127, however, was not introduced until 1963 (along with PB WC #41026, RN #41028, and SWC #41032) for the new .41 S&W Magnum (using the #...27 cherry number recycled from a obsolete .25 caliber hollow point design from the 1890's). It was dropped as a regular item in 1974, but was available on special order through 1978. It, and #41026, which had the same life-span, were primarily for paper-punching, which was not the preferred use of the Maggie; the other two lasted longer: the RN until 1979. and the SWC until 1991."

Gas Checks
It would be better if you cast some of your .41 boolits, measure the shank and refer to the following chart:

Gator Gas Check Shank Sizes

Caliber

Max Shank Dia

Caliber Description / Dimensions

.410P1

.397

.41 Lyman (very thin)

.410P2

.378

.41 BSS, NEI, MM (very thick)

.416

.393

.416 rifle normally

The SAECO #415 has a tapered shank, which goes from .397 at the top, to .393 at the bottom.

17 Oct 2016 - After trying the .410P1 (41T) with my SAECO #415, it is quite apparent that the 41T checks will work only on well formed shanks. If the edges are rounded, the gaschecks will not grip. Even with sharp edges, gaschecks sometimes spin on the shank. Presently checking on a thicker gascheck for .41 Rem Mags.

Jacketed Bullets:
NOTE: Not all that many, and some have velocity limits, due to their design for pistol velocities. So the .414 Super Mag might pop one out faster than the speed which the bullet can hold together at.

Note:  At one time, Hornady made a run of .41 Rem Mag LeverEvolution ammo with 190gr FTX bullets (SKU 9078). Further, you might be seduced by the Hornady Critical Defense .410 loads with an FTX bullet... Look at the pictures closer, that is a non-jacketed FTX bullet... Though it might be interesting to find out what the non-jacketed FTX bullet mics out as...

.41 Magnum and .41 Special in the .414 SuperMag? Rescued with Internet Archive, original HERE
The reason that we and the 2 previous manufacturers of the Dan Wesson design revolver do not recommend using the shorter cartridges in the SuperMag revolvers (i.e. .41 Special and .41 Magnum in the model 414 or 7414) is to protect ourselves from any potential liability resulting from someone trying to get SuperMag performance from the smaller cartridges and blowing up the revolver and causing injury to themselves and anyone nearby. The .414 SuperMag is capable of firing the .41 Magnum and the .41 Special cartridges, as well as the .414 SuperMag cartridge. Please observe the following two cautions:

1. Do not attempt to load either the .41 Magnum or the .41 Special cartridges with the intention of gaining SuperMag performance from them, but rather follow very strictly the safe recommended loads in the powder, bullet or cartridge companies' reloading manuals;

2. Be sure to thoroughly remove any residue build up in the chambers from the shorter cartridges before attempting to load the longer SuperMag cartridges into the chambers, or you will be jamming them into the residue and will either not be able to fully insert them into the chambers, or will experience difficulty with extraction of the empty brass.

.414 SuperMag ammo, brass, load data? Rescued with Internet Archive, original HERE
We have our ammo, brass and load data on this website (click on “Ammo & Brass” on the main menu and either “Ammo & Brass” or “.414 SuperMag Load Data” on the submenu). We stock 20 piece boxes of 170 gr JHP (part # 414 SM 170 $24.41) and 220 gr FPJ (part # 414 SM 220 $24.79). We also stock brass in 100 piece bags (part # 414 BRS 100 $38.00), 250 piece bags (part # 414 BRS 250 $82.50) and 500 piece bags (part # 414 BRS 500 $140.00). .41 Magnum carbide dies work fine for reloading .414 SuperMag brass. We recommend the use of Federal 210 rifle primers, which give a much more complete burn with the increased powder capacity of the .414 SuperMag cartridge.
