SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT Because the PS/2 Models 8555 LS (8555-LE0 and 8555-LT0) is without media, it provides benefits in the area of systems management. System security is improved because data cannot be removed on diskette and programs cannot be entered from diskette at the workstation. Software and data are stored at the server, providing one central facility for maintenance and backup. Consistent software program levels and data files may be maintained for all users on the server. Additional security features such as passwords and the ability to select the IPL source improve control of system usage. The cover lock and bolt down features help prevent theft of the system and options. INVESTMENT PROTECTION The high degree of compatibility of the PS/2 Model 55 SX and 55 LS protects the investment the customer has made in PS/2 hardware and software. An extensive list of Micro Channel options is supported. The system may be upgraded with the addition of a 1.44MB diskette. The 8555-LE0 and 8555-LT0 can also be upgraded with a 40MB or 80MB fixed disk drive. The operating system and compatible software are supported. GROWTH ENABLEMENT The PS/2 Model 55 SX and the Model 55 LS support application development and growth through expansion features. The standard 4MB of memory may be expanded to 8MB on the system board and to 16MB using memory expansion options. Three available 16-bit Micro Channel slots in the Model 55 SX allow the addition of options for additional applications. Two available 16-bit Micro Channel slots in the Model 55 LS allow the addition of options for additional applications. The 1.44MB diskette option and 40MB and 80MB fixed disk options provide growth if local DASD is required on the LAN station. USER PRODUCTIVITY The PS/2 Model 55 SX and Model 55 LS increase user productivity by providing a 32-bit microprocessor for improved computing performance when compared to 8- and 16-bit microprocessors. The highly reliable workstation (without media) improves the availability to the user of the workstation.
