IBM MCA SCSI
Controller Index
Any IBM manufactured MCA SCSI controller supports the Enhanced SCSI BIOS 92F2244 and 92F2245. ONLY IBM manufactured MCA SCSI controllers support the Int4b function, which is an absolute requirement needed by IML. NOTE: This EXCLUDES the Patriot [FD MCS-700], any RAID [Passplay, Cheetah], or a SCSI controller manufactured by a third party [Adaptec, Buslogic, NCR, usw...] FLASH vs IML If you have a FLASH based complex, you can create a convenience partition to store the refdisk and diagnostics, just like the system partition used by an IML complex. The convenience partition is NOT needed to POST, but it is quite convenient when you want to run system programs without needing the refdisk/diags... A FLASH based complex will boot from ANY bootable SCSI controller [Adaptec, Buslogic, FD...] but it will be unable to lay and use a convenience partition if the SCSI controller is non-IBM. NOTE: Enhanced SCSI BIOS >PLUS< Enhanced Complex BIOS enables new SCSI functions. G, J, K, Mu complexi can be upgraded NOTE: All FLASH based complexi have Enhanced Complex BIOS installed. Ku, N, P, Q, Y complexi have Enhanced Complex BIOS functionality Enhanced SCSI BIOS EPROM *.BINs 92F2244 SCSI BIOS Even 27C256 -90 and slower are fast enough [90 to 200 nS]. 92F2245 SCSI BIOS Odd 27C256 |
