Marbles Tang Sight
Screws
Some of us have accumulated a myriad of unused iron sights for assorted rifles. These sights may be in a Ziplock or coffee can. That means you aren't even certain of what rifle it's for, much less what screws are required for that application. NOTE: These specifications are based on the documents from Marbles' website. If you want to be totally sure, measure YOUR rifle's mounting holes. You can also contact Marbles', Brownells, or the manufacturer of your rifle [if they are still around]. NOTE! Compared some Marbles' screw sets on Midway against the Marble's screw guide... You REALLY need to double-check! *Some commemorative or limited addition models may have variation in the screw length. NOTES: I can’t confirm most of these. YMMV. Screws with sizes like "195" probably mean a diameter of 0.195” followed by TPI. (W) means Wood
You should check the screw spacings
between originals and replicas. For example, the original
Winchester 1885 Low Wall uses a Lyman W1. It has a
10-32x.342 screw in the front and uses the existing rear
tang screw hole. BUT the rear tang screw fits into a
counterbore. The mounting holes in the Lyman sight use a
tapered countersink.... So trying to use the original tang
screw ends up with the head of the screw resting on the
top of the sight rear base. Another gotcha... The Browning / Miroku
/ Winchester 1885 Low Wall Traditional Hunter has a tang.
The screw spacings are the same as the original 1885. BUT
the Traditional Hunter has a rear tang mounting hole with
a different position and the TWO 10-32x.342 screws
position the sight OVER the rear tang screw hole... |
