BUSINESS SOLUTIONS The IBM 9517 Color Display is a key element in business solutions involving professional applications such as windowing, graphics, publications and image, bridging the 14- to 19-inch range of displays for desktop operation. SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT The IBM 9517 Color Display is a premium product that attaches to the IBM PS/2 95xx systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS The IBM 9517 Color Display is designed to conform to the following standards: o ISO 9241 Part 3 o MPR-II 1990:08. ERGONOMICS AND ISO STANDARD 9241 PART 3 ISO 9241 Part 3 addresses the following aspects of a display's operation: o Character size, spacing and shape o Character clarity -- the contrast between lit and unlit dots o Screen linearity and 'squareness' o Screen image stability -- flicker and jitter o Reflections and glare o User controls -- brightness and contrast o Display positioning. Refer to Product Announcement 192-221, dated September 21, 1992, for additional information on the background, intent and scope of the ISO 9241 Part 3 standard. ELECTROMAGNETIC EMISSIONS AND MPR-II 1990:08 Electric and magnetic fields with frequencies between 5Hz and 400KHz are called low-frequency fields. It is these low-frequency fields the Swedish MPR-II guidelines are intended to limit. Sources of these fields include the main power supply (50 or 60Hz) from the wall socket and the display circuits responsible for sweeping the electron beam across the face of the CRT. High voltages used within CRTs induce an electrostatic field (ESF) on the surface of the display screen. The MPR-II guidelines also require that this charge be minimized. The levels of these fields emitted by the IBM 9517 meet the Swedish guidelines in full. PRODUCT POSITIONING The IBM 9517 Color Display is positioned as a quality display into a growing market segment for higher resolution than 640 x 480 pixels. It is an IBM premium display with 1024 x 768 pixels addressability to use fully the IBM XGA-2 by offering good display characteristics, an increased screen size of 17-inches yielding more information capacity in a desktop size. The IBM 9517 is suitable for the following users: o Power users of mainstream applications, especially in windowing environments o Technical computing in the office o Desktop publishing users o PC CAD users at the desktop.
