To update the directory of a system that's down right now, RR DIRMAINT GIME DIRMAINT 195 LINKVOL VM50_0 (W DIRMCOPY VM_ DIRECT VM_ RW DIRMAINT 9_ COPY VM_ DIRECT A = = W (REPLACE ----------------------------------------------------------------- To do a wholesale update of the directory, where you'll want to use an editor, (don't ever bring down DIRMAINT on a Monday morning - that's when passwords become outdated and users won't be able to change their passwords with DIRMAINT down), 1) DIRM CMS ERASE USER BACKUP B - This causes DIRMAINT to erase his backup copy of the directory. Once DIRMAINT realizes he doesn't have a backup, he runs his own BACKUP EXEC to create one. Therefore, you'll have a fresh backup copy of the directory (so you don't have keep a backup copy of your own). 2) DIRM SHUTDOWN - This brings DIRMAINT down on SJEVM1 and also on all the other systems as well. 3) Get DIRMAINT's 195 disk in R/W mode. This is so that when SYSCLOCK realizes that DIRMAINT isn't logged on and tries to AUTOLOG him on, DIRMAINT will be unable to get his 195 disk in R/W mode, and log himself off. It's ok that DIRMAINT gets logged on the other systems, they won't do anything. 4) Go ahead and edit the USER DIRECT file, and save it back on DIRMAINT's 195 disk. 5) Release his 195 disk. 6) AUTOLOG DIRMAINT back on. 7) DIRM INITLZ - You'll get a checksum error for each user id that you've changed. 8) After the initilization, do a DIRM CMS ERASE USER PREINITL.
