For the SCSI PCI RAID Adapters on the Patent Server's 7024-F40's: =================================================================== From RETAIN Tip # H136311, ------------------------------------------------ Q. I have installed the SCSI-2 F/W PCI RAID Adapter and have connected hard files to it, but the hard files are not shown as hdisks. How can I see the hard files ? A. The SCSI-2 F/W PCI RAID Adapter is not a plain SCSI Adapter, it's a *RAID* Adapter. The physical disks must be combined into disk arrays before the operation system will see them as a single hdisk. See SCSI-2 F/W RAID Adapter Reference Guide, pub SC23-1889-00. ------------------------------------------------- Q. I have just added one or more hot pluggable hard files, but the SMIT option List all PCI SCSI RAID Drives doesn't show the new drives unless I reboot. Is there any way to have the adapter scan for drives, like cfgmgr scans for devices so I don't have to reboot ? A. To add a spare drive without rebooting, you must use the option " Add Spare Drive " in the PCI SCSI Disk Array Mgr in SMIT. This process is documented in the SCSI-2 F/W RAID Adapter Reference Guide. Add a Spare Drive 3-8. -------------------------------------------------- Q. When I remove physical disks for one hdisk, the other hdisks created by the adapter will not function, even though none of the disks removed were part of the other hdisks. How can I access the other hdisks ? A. Removing the physical disks created an invalid configuration. the adapter does not maintain separate configurations for each hdisk, only for the entire adapter. The correct procedure for removing disks that are part of an array is in the SCSI-2 F/W PCI Adapter Reference Guide. This document explains how to synchronize an invalid configuration. The Device Driver installation is a CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY. This ECA effects 7024-E30, 7025-F40 or F50, 7026-H10, 7013-S70 7015-S70 or 7017-S70.. The device driver MUST be installed first, then followed by the microcode. There is one microcode diskette and one device driver diskette for each level of supported AIX. The supported levels of AIX are 4.1.5, 4.2.1, and 4.3. To determine if one or more SCSI-2 F/W PCI RAID adapters are installed, enter the command; lsdev -Cs PCI | grep scraid.. The adapter names will be "scraidx", where "x" is 0,1, or some other number. To check the microcode level, enter the command; lscfg -vl scraidx If the "Loadable Microcode Level is less than 97308, then you should apply this ECA.. The PCI SCSI-2 F/W RAID adapter diagnostics as orginally released will not allow microcode to be downloaded to drives that have been assigned to an array. Microcode can oly be downloaded to drives that are spares or hot-spares. Several APAR's have been released to address this problem. They are: AIX 4.1.5 -- IX73626, IX75111, IX75126 AIX 4.2.1 -- IX73630, IX75477, IX75478 AIX 4.3 -- IX73632, IX75295, IX75269 --- NOTE IX75295 & IX75269 will be available approx. 4/30/98 Order this ECA through the normal ECA process or download it from AIXTOOLS as package SCRAID4.
