Somebody was having troubles installing AIX 5 on a B50. They said to check the processor's firmware level. Check the microcode of your CD rom. I had the same problem with AIX 5 not loading on a B50 because of that reason. Updated the code and it worked fine. http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/mdownload/download.html ================================================================================ To see how to lock down an AIX system, see http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.aix.doc/aixbman/security/network_internet_security_part.htm ================================================================================ Notes from when I downloaded AIX 5.2 Maintenance Level 7 on 10-2-2005 I had to use a web browser to ftp instead of doing what I normally do from AIX. Starting at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/index.jsp and following the "Fix Central" link, going to http://www-912.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fcgui.jsp I eventually saw this normal-looking ftp URL, ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/fixes/52/ml/520007/520007_v1.tar.gz which you'd think I'd then be able to manually, from an AIX system, cd /afs/d/software/fixes/AIX_5.2_ML_07 ftp ftp.software.com and anonymously login. When I tried this, though, I got ftp ftp.software.com Connected to web.nameintel.com. 220 homer FTP server (Version 6.00LS+TLS) ready. Name (ftp.software.com:jasper): anonymous 504 TLS/SSL is mandatory. Login failed. ftp> Anyway, I did this through windows, writing into AFS. Slow, but it got the job done and it was gonna be slow anyway (about a half hour). Then I could cd /afs/d/software/fixes/AIX_5.2_ML_07 gzip -d -c *gz | tar -xvf -
