New iSeries Servers
Model 800 for Small Enterprises
If you're running a small business with
minimal IT resources, your server must be easy-to-run, affordable, and offer
the solutions and support you need.
The Model 800 is iSeries' most affordable
server with solutions specifically designed for small enterprises. You can
manage your Model 800 from a Windows-based PC easily and train your operators
quickly and easily.
Most small businesses need to run at least one
Windows server. The iSeries can integrate Intel-based servers, so you can
manage everything on the same system.
Model 810 for Small-to Medium-Sized
Enterprises
If you're a small to medium-sized company, the
Model 810 can help you leave behind the complexity and management costs of
running a server farm.
Thousands of solutions, many for your
industry, are designed with new e-business applications based on IBM's UDB DB2,
WebSphere, and Lotus Domino technology.
The Model 810 is simple to use and leverages
iSeries' proven reputation for availability -- your applications will be there
when you need them most.
The Model 810 can also run Windows and Linux
applications. You choose the applications you need today and run practically
any application that you might need in the future. With self-managed
technology, iSeries can help you lower your staffing costs and keep the total
cost of ownership down.
iSeries Servers for Medium-to Large-Sized
Enterprises
The exceptional performance growth of IBM
POWER4 processor technology is now available on a wide range of
enterprise-class iSeries servers. These servers feature Capacity Upgrade on
Demand, so you get the performance you need, when you need it.
With server consolidation tools like dynamic
logical partitioning (LPAR), you can combine multiple workloads on a single
server. You can even consolidate Linux applications in up to 31 partitions with
LPAR, and multiple Windows servers can be managed with an Integrated xSeries
Adapter or an Integrated xSeries Server.
Take advantage of the iSeries' clustering and
switched disk technologies for maximum business continuity.
EZ-Setup
EZ-Setup simplifies iSeries setup with a GUI
and an easy-to-follow interface on your PC attached to an iSeries server via Op

Note: (1) The MCU ratings reflect the capabilities of the processor features.
Supporting this number of users would require additional memory and disk, above
the minimum amounts included in the basic configurations.
Mail and Calendar Users (MCU): This relative
performance measurement is derived by performing mail and calendar functions
using Domino and Notes clients. Mail and calendar workload is significantly
more complex than Simple Mail Users, another measured workload sometimes
quoted. The MCU workload represents users on a Notes client reading, updating,
or deleting documents in an e-mail database, as well as lookups in the Domino
Directory, scheduling calendar appointments, and invitations. Reported values
reflect 70% processor utilization to allow for growth and peak loads in excess
of customer workload estimates.
The server features used for iSeries for
Domino specify the minimum amount of disk, memory, and Domino licenses required
for an initial order. Customers will be required to provide proof of Lotus
software licenses. For additional information, click on:

Capacity on Demand
Every iSeries Model 825, 870, or 890 comes
with extra processor capacity built into the server. This extra capacity,
delivered as stand-by processors, can be activated permanently or temporarily.
IBM eServer Capacity Upgrade on Demand enables you to grow processor capacity as your needs
grow. Stand-by processors can be permanently activated by ordering an
activation feature that results in an activation code being provided that can
quickly be entered at your server console.
IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand delivers great flexibility in meeting the peak demands
of your dynamic business. Stand-by processors can be temporarily activated with
a simple request right at your server console, provided the server has been
enabled for use of temporary capacity. (Note: This offering may also be
referred to by IBM as Temporary Capacity Upgrade on Demand, Temporary Capacity
on Demand, and/or On/Off Capacity Upgrade on Demand.)

Capacity Upgrade on Demand
Processor activation features can be ordered
to make available the extra processor capacity you need. When one or more
activation features are ordered, an activation code is generated and shipped to
you (mailed and posted on the Web).
Enter the activation code (think of it as a
capacity key) into the proper server screen, and your newly activated
processors are ready to use. No IPL is required. Assign the permanently
activated processors to a partition before use, whether your machine is
configured for LPAR or not.
Ordering Permanent Capacity
Once you decide to permanently activate some
or all of your stand-by processors, you can contact your business partner or
IBM representative to order a quantity of activation features.

Ordering Guidelines
1. New server orders or orders for model-to-model upgrades
that result in a new footprint do not require vital product data to be sent to
IBM manufacturing for the order to be fulfilled.
2.
For new
server purchases or upgrades to a Model 825, 870, or 890, you can include
activation features on the order and have stand-by processors activated before
the server is shipped. This allows you to customize the performance
characteristics of the server.
3.
Processor
conversions, package conversions, or model-to-model upgrades that do not result
in a new footprint do not require vital product data to be sent to IBM
manufacturing for the order to be fulfilled.
For these orders,
you can include activation features on the order and have your activation code
mailed/posted to the Web so it is ready to enter when you have completed your
hardware upgrade. You don't need to order a separate MES to permanently activate
extra processor capac- ity as part of a field upgrade for hardware.
4.
Orders
for activation features do not require vital product data to be sent to IBM
manufacturing for the order to be fulfilled.
For orders that do
not contain processor or package features, you do not need to send vital
product data to IBM manufacturing before the order for activation features can
be scheduled and fulfilled.
Additional Information
Step-by-step directions for ordering
activation features and the subsequent entering of activation codes can be
reviewed in the iSeries Capacity on Demand Planning Guide found at:

On/Off Capacity on Demand offers a prepaid
capability to give you additional budgeting flexibility. You can choose to pay
for 30 processor days prior to activation ("Prepaid Processor Days")
at a discounted price. Consider this alternative when you don't want to be
billed at the end of a quarter for temporary capacity that has been activated.
Prepaid processor days will be credited to
your On/Off Capacity on Demand account for the applicable serial number system
and applied to records of activated temporary capacity reported for such
system. Any processor days used beyond the prepaid quantity will be billed at
the regular processor day price. Unused prepaid processor days are not
refundable and may not be transferred to another system. As with any processor
activations, you are responsible for any additional software charges that may
apply.
You must sign the On/Off Capacity on Demand
contracts and order the applicable enablement code before purchasing the
prepaid feature.
Temporary Capacity Enablement
Before requesting temporary capacity on your
server, you must "enable" your server. To do this, order an
enablement feature (MES only) and sign the required contracts.
IBM will generate an enablement code, mail it
to you, and post it on the Web for you to retrieve and enter on your server.
An enablement code lets you request up to 192
processor days of temporary capacity. This means, you can make requests for
temporary capacity over the life of the machine as long you don't exceed 192
processor days. When the limit is reached, a new enablement feature must be
ordered, and a new enablement code must be entered. Every time a new enablement
code is entered it will reset the limit of processor days that can be requested
to 192.
Temporary Capacity Enablement: Step-by-Step
·
Prerequisite 1: Sales
channel (IBM Business Partner) must sign one of the following contracts:
o
IBM Business Partner
Agreement, Distributor Attachment for Temporary Capacity On Demand
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/ondemand/cod
Temporary Capacity Requests
When you need temporary capacity, simply go to
the temporary capacity screen on the server and specify how many of the
stand-by (not activated) processors you would like temporarily activated and
for how many days you would like them activated.
You will be billed for the processor days you
request, so it is important to assign the processors to a partition as soon as
they are activated to get the full benefit of the temporary capacity.
At the end of the temporary period (days you
requested), you must make the temporarily activated processors
"available" (LPAR state) to be reclaimed by the server, or you will
be billed for any unreturned processor days (per the contract you signed).
Temporary Capacity Requests: Step-by-Step
1. Customer goes to temporary capacity screen on the
server and specifies the amount and duration of temporary capacity desired
(e.g., quantity of processors for a duration of days).
2.
Customer
presses enter, to confirm the request, and the capacity is activated.
3.
Customer
assigns the temporary capacity to a partition (whether or not the machine is
configured for LPAR) to begin using temporary capacity.
Temporary Capacity Billing
The contract, signed by the customer before
receiving the enablement code, requires the customer to report billing data at
least once a month (whether there is activity or not). This data is used to
determine the proper amount to bill the customer at the end of each billing
period (calendar quarter).
Processor days of credit (prepaid, bonus,
and/or complementary) will be applied against any requested and/or unreturned
processor days of temporary capacity. This will happen automatically, until
they are used.
Failure to report billing data during a
billing quarter will result in a bill for 90 days of temporary capacity.
The sales channel will be notified of customer
requests for temporary capacity. As a result, the sales channel is required to
place an order for a quantity of billing features (one feature for each
billable processor day reported).
Temporary Capacity Billing: Step-by-Step
1. Customer must report billing data (requested and
unreturned processor days) at a minimum of once per month either electronically
or via fax (stated requirement in the signed contract).
2.
At the
end of each billing period (calendar quarter), IBM will process the reported
data collected in the IBM database (MRPD), make adjustments for credit days
(prepaid, bonus, and/or complementary) and then notify the sales channel, so
the proper billing can take place.
3.
Sales
channel places an order for a quantity of billing features (one billing feature
for each processor day).
4.
IBM
will ship a billing notice (notifies customer of billing actions) to the
ship-to address on the order as part of the fulfillment process.
5.
Customer
pays the sales channel and the sales channel pays IBM for the fulfillment of
the billing features.

Models 800, 810, 825, 870 and the enhanced
Model 890 provide a complete refresh of iSeries servers. Industry-leading
on-demand capability, Web enablement enhancements, simpler product structure to
make selecting the right iSeries server easier, and new PCI-X I/O complete the
refresh of the iSeries product line.
POWER4 technology is now available on the new
3-way and larger servers of the product line. The new Models 800 through Model
870 are rated from 300 processor CPW to 20,000 processor CPW with the Model 890
delivering up to 37,400 CPW. All of these servers have performance and
functional characteristics capable of running a wide range of application
workloads including e-business, WebSphere, Java, Linux, client-server, ported
UNIX, and Domino, as well as online transaction processing (OLTP).
These new models replace Models 270, 820, 830,
and 840 in most proposals.
·
Model 800 (300 or 950
CPW) replaces most Model 270s.
Model 800 Value, Standard, and Advanced
Editions are tailored specifically for small enterprises. The Model 800 matches
the needs of many small and medium-sized enterprises. This server has the
performance and capacities to replace much of the installed AS/400 product
line. The Advanced Edition is an excellent choice for a customer running OLTP
applications whose business expansion plans require more e-business and on demand
capability.
New Options Packages for Models 810, 825, 870,
or 890 provide a choice of either a Standard or Enterprise Package. The
Standard Package provides an aggressively priced server with the ability to run
any workload, including 5250 OLTP applications that have been IBM Webfaced and
are running under WebSphere Application Server or WebSphere - Express for
iSeries. The Enterprise Package provides a much richer and more complete set of
capabilities and components to better match the needs of on demand
environments. 5250 OLTP applications can be run either:
·
Under the 5250 CPW
provided by the Enterprise Package
The Model 890 has been updated with new
processor features to match the simpler product structure of the Models 810,
825, and 870. It is generally financially advantageous to order the Model 890
using the new processor feature numbers. The processor CPW ratings of the Model
890 do not change. Current Model 890 customers can upgrade to the new processor
feature numbers and the appropriate Enterprise or Standard Package. Once
upgraded, the On/Off Capacity on Demand capabilities, OS/400 licensing by
processor, 5250 OLTP capacities, and P50 software tier for future software
acquisitions all apply.
Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890 are the
only iSeries servers that do not require 5250 interactive CPW when running 5250
OLTP applications Webfaced using the IBM WebSphere Development Studio WebFacing
Tool.
On/Off Capacity on Demand capabilities
increase the flexibility and adaptability of the Models 825, 870, and 890 to
quickly respond to normal growth or immediately respond to peak workload
demands. In addition to the permanent activations currently provided on the
Models 830, 840, and 890, new temporary activations support peak workload
demands on Models 825, 870, and 890.
New iSeries PCI adapters, controllers, and
PCI-X I/O towers/units expand and extend the currency and capabilities of the
iSeries. The new I/O features should be used in place of existing features.
They are newer technology and can offer performance gains. If there are no
current subsystem I/O performance bottlenecks, I/O subsystem performance gains
may not impact overall systems performance substantially for your server at its
current utilization.
The new I/O towers with PCI-X technology
should be used in place of the current HSL-attached I/O towers on new iSeries
servers. Existing #5065/5066 PCI I/O towers on Models 820, 830, and 840 should
be converted to HSL-attached #5074/5079 PCI I/O towers or replaced with
#5094/5294 PCI-X I/O towers to improve overall I/O subsystem performance.

Model 800 and 810 initial installation is
customer setup. Model 825, 870, and 890 initial installation will be performed
by IBM service representatives. Model upgrades on ALL models are performed by
IBM service representatives.
Some features are designated CSU. On MES orders
where all features are CSU, the customer can install all features. IBM
installation is available for a charge, under normal service contracts. On MES
orders that contain mix of IBM and CSU features, the customer may choose to
have the IBM service representative install all features (including those
designated as CSU).
The customer is responsible for installation
of external cables, displays, printers, and modems. Customers may request IBM
service personnel to perform these activities for a charge.
Customer Replaceable Units (CRU)
Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890 support the
service option of Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs). This gives customers the
ability to replace failed devices on a schedule that meets their needs. A CRU
is a part that has been designed and tested to be installed by the customer. A
CRU is shipped to the customer and is to be replaced by the customer. CRU parts
include, but are not limited to, memory (Models 800, 810, and 825), CD-ROM,
DVD, DASD, PCI adapters, tape drives, tape cleaning cartridges, and power
supplies.

Features can be added and removed from iSeries
servers by ordering new features, removing existing features, or doing feature
conversions, if available. Some of these features may be withdrawn over time.
Check with your IBM representative for current availability.
Feature conversions are used when it is
necessary to physically change an installed feature. New parts will be shipped,
and, unless otherwise noted, the removed or replaced parts become the property
of IBM.
The addition of a new feature and removal
of an installed feature does not involve any credit. Unless otherwise
specified, a removed feature remains the property of the customer. Feature
removals not associated with a model upgrade or feature conversion may be
subject to a charge.
System Configuration
All system units and expansion units have
locations for features including processors, main storage, power, expansion,
disks, tapes, CD/DVDs, and IOPs. Some restrictions may apply to certain
combinations of features. The configurator contains the rules and performance
considerations for placement of these features, and should be used to ensure a
valid configuration. The use of performance tools may also help in optimizing a
configuration to match a specific set of requirements.
Customer Setup (CSU) Features
Some features are designated CSU. On MES
orders where all features are CSU, the customer installs all features. IBM
installation is available for a charge, under normal service contracts. On MES
orders that contain a mix of IBM and CSU features, the customer may choose to
have the IBM service representative install all features (including those
designated as CSU).

Order codes:
B - Available on both initial and field upgrade orders
M - Available on field upgrade (MES) orders only
P - Available on initial orders from the plant only
S - Supported for migration only and cannot be ordered
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk
units are not ordered to support device-level mirrored protection. On
upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated during installation of the
upgrade if sufficient disk units are not available. #0040 requires all disk
units to be placed into mirrored pairs. The load source must be controlled by
the first disk controller and must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached
to the first disk controller. Minimum number of disks allowed on a system: two.
Causes the order to fail if a non-RAID
configuration is ordered. This is the default specify code for data protection.
#0041 requires all internal disk units be placed into RAID arrays using a RAID
capable disk controller. The rules for RAID can be found in the disk controller
descriptions. All external disk units must be RAID capable.
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk
units and IOPs are not included on the order to support IOP-level
mirrored protection. On Upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated
during installation of the upgrade if sufficient Disk units and IOPs are not available.
#0042 requires all disk units to be placed into mirrored pairs. Each mirrored
pair of disk units must be on separate disk unit IOP. The load source must be
controlled by the first disk controller and must be mirrored to a like disk
unit also attached to the first disk controller. (#0040 protection). Minimum
number of disks allowed on a system: four.
Causes the order to fail if sufficient disk
units, IOPs, and expansion units are not included on the order to support bus-level
mirrored protection. On upgrade orders, a warning message will be generated
during installation of the upgrade if sufficient disk units, IOPs, and
expansion units are not available.
#0043 requires all disk units to be placed
into mirrored pairs. Each mirrored pair of disk units must be on separate
busses. The load source must be controlled by the first disk controller and
must be mirrored to a like disk unit also attached to the first disk
controller. (#0040 protection). Minimum number of disks allowed on a system:
four.
A system console specify code must be selected
on each new order. One console adapter is required on each new order to drive
the system console. The system console may be changed on installed systems via
MES.
When #5540
is on the order, the system console is driven by a twinaxial adapter. #4746 PCI
Twinaxial Workstation IOA is added to the order:
When #5544 is on the order, the system console
is driven by a WAN adapter. A #0367, Operations Console PCI cable is included.
With #5546, the system console is driven by a
token-ring LAN adapter. #2744, PCI 100Mbps Token-Ring IOA, is required on the
server. This LAN adapter must be dedicated to console support/functions and
cannot be used for any other purpose.
Prerequisite: One #0367 Operations Console
cable. With LPAR, one #0367 per server is sufficient, regardless of the number
of LAN consoles defined per system.
With #5548, the system console is driven by an
Ethernet LAN adapter. A 100/10Mbps Ethernet IOA is required on the system. This
LAN adapter must be dedicated to console support functions and cannot be used
for any other purpose.
Prerequisite: One #0367 Operations Console
cable. With LPAR, one #0367 per server is sufficient, regardless of the number
of LAN consoles defined per system.
Added to an order for each of the following
devices directly attaching (not second on a daisy-chained string) to an iSeries
system via a #2768/#5702/#5705.
Note: If any of the above devices will be daisy-chained off of another device,
then the #0162 specify is not be added to the order.
This specify is added to an order for each
device attaching to an iSeries system via a #2765, PCI Fibre Channel Tape
Controller.
Attachment via differential interface (#2749).
#0165 is used to indicate that an external
CD/DVD/tape device will be attached to a #5702 or #5705 controller.
The configurator will select default line
cords for the country in which the order is placed. Optional line cords may be
selected.
All systems require a #29XX specify code. A
29XX code is required on all model upgrades, even if one is already on the
records.
Machine history at the IBM plant is used to
ship the proper language when the 29XX code is not on an MES order.
These features have country-specific usage.
Indicates that preloaded software and/or
consolidated I/O is shipped with the initial order. A maximum of one (#5000) is
supported. This feature has country-specific usage.
#5029 is required on all new orders and
upgrades to Models 800, 810, 825, 870, and 890.
This code drives translated customer
installation instructions, MES package labeling, and indicates that an IBM CE
should not automatically be dispatched to install the MES. The order
configurators will place this specify on orders when required.
Indicates that IBM service involvement is
required to install an MES. This feature drives service installation
instructions, MES package labeling, and indicates that IBM service should be
dispatched to install the MES.
This specify code is used by manufacturing
applications to determine the correct number of additional hardware items
(i.e., wrist straps) to include on a bulk MES order.
Added to an initial order system where logical
partitioning (LPAR)(#0140) is requested. This code instructs manufacturing to
only load SLIC on the minimum number of DASD files (i.e., do not spread across
all available DASD units. Mutually exclusive with #5000 SW Preload, or any
solution developer preloads.
Prerequisite: #0140 (Logical Partitioned
System). Maximum: One.
#0140 is used to specify that this system will
be logically partitioned. The configurator will add a quantity of one #0140 to
the order for each logical partition running OS/400.
Initial system orders and model upgrade orders
containing this specify will ship without RAID or mirroring enabled.
#0141 specifies that this system will be part
of a cluster using HSL OptiConnect. This code allows additional HSL cables to
be ordered for the OptiConnect systems.
#0142 is used to specify that this system will
be logically partitioned with a Linux partition. The configurators will add a
quantity of one #0142 to the order for each Linux partition required.
Linux direct-attached features are only
allowed within a Linux partition. Linux direct-attached features are not
allowed in OS/400 partitions.
There are no minimum number of Linux
direct-attached features required per Linux partition. A Linux partition can
exist without any Linux direct-attached features in it. iSeries will provide
virtual I/O for Linux partitions without any Linux direct attach features.
Prerequisite: #0140, Logical Partitioning
Specify.
Used on initial orders for Models 800, 810,
825, 870, and 890, to designate that the new server will replace (not upgrade)
an installed AS/400 (RISC) model.
When #0205 is on the order, manufacturing will
only load SLIC and up through QSYS of OS/400. This will facilitate migrating
some of the OS/400 information from the installed system. In addition to the
new server, enough DASD must be ordered to hold all the data from the current
model, as well as the required software on the new server. Specify Code #5000
(SW Preload Required) is mutually exclusive with #0205.
The migration process requires that the
installed model be at the same version and release level of OS/400 and other
licensed programs as the new server. Financial considerations of upgrades to
the installed software should be reviewed as part of the migration planning.
More information, and an updated AS/400 System
Upgrade and Data Migration Road Map (RISC-RISC) are available at:

Required to differentiate Iceland from Denmark
(678) in hardware orders. Add feature #0322 to every Iceland order. MFC uses
#0322 in conjunction with modem, I/O adapters, system unit to generate correct
hardware. This feature has country-specific usage.
For each #5294 ordered, the configurator will
add two #0694 specify codes. #0694s may be added to, or deleted from system
inventory records, but at least one #0694 must exist for each #5294 on the
inventory records. If an existing #5294 is to be shared between two systems,
one #0694 must be removed from the system that the #5294 was ordered against,
and one #0694 must be added to the other sharing system. For each #8094
ordered, default a quantity of one #0694 specify code on the order. If the top
unit of the #8094 will not attach to the same system as the lower unit, #0694
must be added to the system which has the upper unit attached. These adds and
deletes are done as record purpose only (RPO) changes.
Order one of the following load source specify
codes for each new, or upgrade order. These specifies can be changed at any
time.
After 255 scratch installs, the system ID
counter wraps and a new system ID must be created. Feature #1311 can be ordered
as an MES to regenerate a customer's system ID.
Indicates that a machine is to be routed to
the Customer Solution Center at time of manufacture. Multiple #5001s are
allowed on the records. This feature has country-specific usage.
Indicates that machine is to be routed to the
CDSC. This feature has country-specific usage.
This specify code is used on Models 870 and 890
to activate one additional processor with an On/Off Capacity on Demand
processor feature as part of a package on initial order.

Model 890 servers with On/Off Capacity on
Demand processors #2487 and #2488 also require an interactive capacity feature.
This feature determines the relative performance available to perform
interactive (5250 interactive) workloads.
Model 890:
These features are used to order an activation
code that permanently activates one additional processor on an iSeries server
with an On/Off Capacity on Demand processor. One or more POD Activation
features may be ordered initially, or via MES.
Prepaid features provide 30 processor days of
On/Off Capacity on Demand. Upon purchasing one of these features, your On/Off
Capacity on Demand account will be credited for 30 processor days for each
feature ordered. Your system must be enabled for On/Off Capacity on Demand
before ordering prepaid days.
These features are ordered to enable your
server for On/Off Capacity on Demand. Once enabled, you can request processors
on a temporary basis. You must sign an On/Off Capacity on Demand contract
before you order this feature.
Prior to reaching your enabled limit of usable
temporary processor days, you may reorder this feature.
Once a TCoD Enablement feature is ordered and
the associated enablement code is entered into the system, you must report to
IBM at least monthly, your temporary usage. This information is used to compute
your billing data that is then provided to your sales channel. The sales
channel will place an order for a quantity of TCoD Billing features and bill
you.
A single main storage DIMM feature is allowed
on these processors. When the total number of main storage DIMMs is increased
greater than one, the single existing DIMM must be paired up (with a DIMM of
the same capacity) and any additional DIMMs must be added in pairs of the same
capacity.
There are eight memory DIMM slots available in
the base system for main storage DIMMs which plug directly onto the backplane.
Memory features for #2466 and #2467
processors:
A single main storage DIMM feature is allowed
on these processors. When the total number of main storage DIMMs is increased
greater than one, the single existing DIMM must be paired up (with a DIMM of
the same capacity) and any additional DIMMs must be added in pairs of the same
capacity.
There are eight memory DIMM slots available in
the base system for main storage DIMMs which plug directly onto the backplane.
Memory features for #2469 processor:
A minimum of two DIMMs (same feature code)
must be selected. If more than two DIMMs are required, all memory features MUST
be in sets of four (quads) (this means making a quad out of the initial two
DIMMs also). Maximum of 16 of these DIMM features allowed on a system.
Valid memory capacity for the Model 825 is
from 2GB to 48GB. Typically at least 3GB of memory is recommended. With only
2GB of memory configured, variable performance and a measurable CPU performance
degradation may be experienced. This may not be of concern in environments
where perhaps there is low peak CPU utilization. Use the configurator to
appropriately select up to 24 memory features plugged in blocks of four
identical memory features.
Valid memory capacity for the Model 870 is
from 8GB to 128GB. Use the configurator to appropriately select up to four
memory features.
Valid memory capacities for the 24-way and
16/24-way processors are: 8(1), 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 64, 80, 96, 128, 160 and
192 GB. Valid memory configurations for the 32-way and 24/32-way are: 16(1),
24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224 and 256 GB.
The smallest memory capacities(1) are not
recommended for most customer configurations. These two special points should
be used only when variable performance and a measurable CPU performance
degradation is not of concern, perhaps in environments where there is low peak
CPU utilization. Use the configurator to appropriately select up to six memory
features for the 24-way or 16/24-way processors, or up to eight memory features
for the 32-way or 24/32-way processors.
Note: Four Model 740/840 main storage cards must be returned to IBM for every
single Model 740/840 main storage feature converted to a Model 870/890 main
storage feature. Four Model 825 main storage cards must be returned to IBM for
every single Model 825 main storage feature converted to a Model 870/890 main
storage feature. The monetary value of the three main storage cards which must
be returned, but are not converted, are already included in the single feature
conversion. Similarly, eight Model 830 main storage cards must be returned for
every single Model 830 main storage feature converted to a Model 870/890 main
storage feature.
#5105 provides dual line cord capability for a

Compressed (typical): 12MB/s
OS/400 V5R1, or later, is required.
This feature is a PCI-X SCSI controller with a
maximum compressed write cache of 757MB. #2757 provides RAID-5 protection for
internal disks and also supports internal tape units, CD-ROM and DVD-RAM. The
#2757 has four SCSI buses that support up to 18 disk units. Hardware data
compression is not supported.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for
disks, #2757 is also a high-performance controller for disks protected by
system mirroring or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration, disk
unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater
performance than system checksums.
A minimum of three disk units of the same
capacity are needed for a valid RAID-5 configuration. A maximum of six arrays
are allowed per controller, with a maximum of 18 disk units allowed per array.
All disk units in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread
across either two, four, eight, or sixteen disk units in an array. If an array
of three disk units is started, parity is spread across two disk units. If an
array of four to seven disk units is started, parity is spread across four disk
units. If an array of eight to fifteen disk units is started, parity is spread
across eight disk units. If an array of sixteen to eighteen disk units is
started, parity is spread across sixteen disk units. The number of arrays and
size of each array can be influenced by specifying an optimization of either
balance, performance, or capacity in Operations Navigator when starting arrays.
An optimization of balance is the default when starting arrays from the green
screens. If disk units are included into an existing array, parity may be
spread across less than the preferred number of disk units. In this case the
RAID function must be stopped and started to redistribute the parity.
#2757 controls up to two removable media
devices (internal tape, CD-ROM, DVD)

internal tape units, CD-ROM and DVD devices. #2782 has two SCSI buses that
support up to 12 disk units. Hardware data compression is not supported.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for
disks, #2782 also works as a high-performance controller for disks protected by
system mirroring, or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration,
disk unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater
performance than system checksums.
A minimum of three disk units of the same
capacity are needed for a valid RAID-5 configuration. A maximum of four arrays
are allowed per controller, with a maximum of 12 disk units allowed per array.
All disk units in an array must be of the same capacity. Parity is spread
across either two, four, or eight disk units in an array. If an array of three
disk units is started, parity is spread across two disk units. If an array of
four to seven disk units is started, parity is spread across four disk units.
If an array of eight to twelve disk units is started, parity is spread across
eight disk units. The number of arrays and size of each array can be influenced
by specifying an optimization of either balance, performance, or capacity in
Operations Navigator when starting arrays. An optimization of balance is the
default when starting arrays from the green screens. If disk units are included
into an existing array, parity may be spread across less than the preferred
number of disk units. In this case the RAID function must be stopped and
started to redistribute the parity.
#2782 controls up to two removable media
devices (internal tape, CD-ROM, or DVD)
This feature requires OS/400 V5R2, plus
updates. Refer to Informational APAR II13440 at:
http://www.ibm.com/eserver/iseries/support
#4778 is an Ultra2 SCSI controller with a
maximum compressed write cache size of 104MB that provides RAID-5 protection
and compression (not on 70GB disk units) for internal disks and also supports
internal tape units, CD-ROM, DVD-RAM and DVD-ROM units.
#4778 supports both disk compression and
enhanced modes. The mode of operation is determined by a hardware jumper. #4778
is shipped in enhanced mode, which enables compression of the write cache and
Extended Adaptive Cache (a read cache device is needed for Extended Adaptive
Cache, see below). By moving the hardware jumper the controller will function
in disk compression mode. Disk compression mode should only be used when disk
compression is desired.
In addition to providing RAID-5 protection for
disks, #4778 also works as a high-performance controller for disks protected by
system mirroring, or disks with no protection. In the RAID-5 configuration,
disk unit protection is provided at less cost than mirroring, and with greater
performance than system checksums.
The #4778 controller supports up to 15 disk
units. A minimum of four disk units of the same capacity are needed for a valid
RAID-5 configuration. A maximum of four arrays are allowed per controller, with
a maximum of 10 disk units allowed per tray. All disk units in an array must be
of the same capacity. Parity is spread across four disk units for arrays of
four to seven disk units. Parity can be spread across either four or eight disk
units for arrays of eight or ten disks. For systems started with eight to ten
disk units in an array the parity, for that array, will be spread across eight
disk units. For systems that are started with less than eight disk units in the
array and later increased to eight, nine or ten disk units, the RAID function
must be stopped and then started before the parity will be spread across eight
disk units.
See the Disk Unit Table for a list of disks
that can be placed into RAID-5 arrays.
#4778 controls up to two removable media
devices (internal tape, CD, or DVD. #4778 supports compression on 36GB disk units.

Feature #4805 provides improved performance
for high-transaction-rate secure Web applications which use the secure sockets
layer (SSL) or transport layer security (TLS) protocols. SSL/TLS is the
predominant method for securing Web transactions. Applications using SSL/TLS
include those transferring payment information (e.g., credit card numbers) over
the Internet, e.g., between a Web browser and a server in the case of B2C or
between servers in the case of B2B. Establishing SSL/TLS secure Web connections
requires very compute intensive cryptographic processing. Feature #4805
off-loads cryptographic processing associated with the establishment of a
SSL/TLS session, thus freeing the server for other processing.
The Cryptographic Accelerator is targeted to
high-transaction-rate secure Web applications using SSL/TLS. If your
application requires a FIPS 140-1 certified, tamper-resistant module for
storing cryptographic keys and/or requires financial PIN processing, then
features #4801 or #4802, Cryptographic Coprocessors should be your choice.
Note: FIPS 140-1 is a U.S. Government National Institute of Standards 1
Technology (NIST) administered standard and certification program for
cryptographic modules.
