6381/Si hang at Windows logo screen


PROBLEM - PS/Valuepoint 6381/Si may hang at the Windows logo screen after upgrading to or installing Microsoft "Windows for Workgroups 3.11".

Systems AFFECTED - Valuepoint 6381 machines. (see Additional Information)

SOLUTION - A patch has been released to resolve this failure and may be obtained in the following manner: The patch is titled "WFW311FX.DSK" and may be downloaded from the IBM BBS.

Additional Information - If the system is a 486 DX or DX2 (Mxx or Wxx model): locate jumper position J26 and J27 on the front edge of the system board. If the jumper designations are present and there are no PINs in these positions, this tip does apply. If jumper PINs are present, this tip does not apply.

If the system is a 486SX (Fxx or Kxx model): View the front edge of the system board near the memory SIMM connectors. If manufacturing part number 65G3708 is present, this tip does apply. 486SX system boards with any other part numbers are not affected. The 486SX system boards will not have jumper locations J26 and J27.
