System hang - memory conflict E000 MEM-SEG.

PROBLEM - Valuepoint systems may experience a hang due to memory conflicts over the E000 memory segment. many memory managers can be configured to use this memory space. on IBM Valuepoint and ps/2 systems, this area is reserved for POST/BIOS. Memory managers typically make this memory area available because many competitor systems POST/BIOS do not use this area. On Valuepoint systems (without external adapters), the C000 and D000 memory segments are left free for use by memory managers.

Machines AFFECTED - all 6382/S, 6384/D and 6387/T running EMM386.

SOLUTION - When using EMM386, place the parameter X=E000-EFFF on the line in which EMM386 is loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file to ensure no conflicts will exist.

Additional Information -

A new VP-2 FLASH BIOS series enables E000-EFFF to be included. The image is downloadable from library.
