  Ethernet Adapter Troubleshooting Chart (100/10 PCI)

You can use the following troubleshooting chart to find solutions to problems that have definite symptoms.

Adapter Problem Action
The Setup program
reports the adapter's
interrupt as 0 or 255.
The PCI BIOS is not configuring
the adapter correctly.
The Setup program
reports No PCI Bus.
The PCI BIOS is not configuring
the adapter correctly.
Workstation stops running
when loading drivers
Change the PCI BIOS interrupt settings.
LNK LED does not light Check the following:
° Make sure you have loaded the
network drivers.
° Check all connections at the
adapter and the hub.
° Use another port on the hub.
° if you forced the duplex mode,
make sure that you also force the
speed to either 10 or 100.
° Make sure that the hub port is
configured for the correct
speed (10 Mbps or 100 Mbps).
° If you manually configured the
duplex mode, make sure that you
manually configure the speed also.

The ACT LED does not light. Check the following:
° Make sure that you have loaded
the network drivers.
° The network might be idle.
Try sending data from this
workstation.
° Use another Ethernet adapter.
Data is corrupted or sporadic. Make sure that you are using
Category 5 cabling when operating
at 100 Mbps.
The Ethernet adapter stopped
working when another adapter was
added to the server.
Check the following:
° Make sure that the cable is
connected to the Ethernet
adapter.
° Make sure that your PCI system
BIOS is current.
° Reseat the adapter.
The adapter stopped working
without apparent cause.
Check the following:
° Reseat the Ethernet adapter or
try a different connector.
° Reinstall the drivers.
° Use a different Ethernet adapter.
