Removing the top cover

Refer to the following illustration while you perform the steps in this procedure.

Before you begin:

•  If the server is on, do not leave the top cover off for more than 30 minutes at a time.
•  Read 'Safety information'.

1.  Unless you are installing or removing a hot-swap or hot-plug component, run the shutdown procedure for  the operating system, turn off the server and all attached devices, and disconnect all external cables  and power cords
    (see 'Preparing to install options').
2.  Lift the plastic cover-release latch -1- near the edge of the top cover -2-.
3.  Lift the top cover off the server and set the cover aside.
