Running the tctl Command

Running the tctl Command

Use the tctl command to verify that system commands can be performed on a device.
This is especially useful for those types of devices that are not accessible using the tapeuti 1 command (for example, the tape drives in the 7331 Tape Library, 7336 Tape Library, or 7337 Tape Library).

To use the tctl command, at the AIX command line type the following and press Enter (where x equals the number of the tape library and the subcommand is one of the subcommands from the list that follows):

tctl -f/dev/rmtx subcommand

In a library with a resource name of rmtO, to rewind and unload a tape cartridge, type the following and press Enter.

tctl -f/dev/rmt0 rewoffl

The following are subcommands that can be used in a tctl line command.
   weof    Write end of file
   fst    Forward space file
   fsr    Forward space record
   rewind    Rewind
   rewoffl    Rewind or offload (unload)
   eof    Erase end of file
   bsf    Backward space file
   bsr    Backward space record
   offline    Set offline
