Removing the Power-On Password

  Removing the Power-On Password

To remove the power-on password, perform the following steps:
  1.  Power-off the computer.
  2.  Remove the SO-DIMM door.  For an illustration of the location  of the SO-DIMM door,  see Figure 1 in 'Disassembling the ThinkPad'
  3.  Locate the two pads near the SO-DIMM.  For an illustration of the pads,  see 'Bottom System Board (Bottom View)'
  4.  Use a slim metal bar such as a  paper clip to short the pads  by placing the metal bar  across the two pads.
  5.  Replace the SO-DIMM door.
  6.  Power-on the computer and wait until the POST ends.
  7.  Verify that the password prompt does not appear.

The customer must set a new password to restore power-on password protection. The customer will also need to reset the former configuration in the Configuration Utility.
