                  The Complete Fax and Fax 9624
     How To Share a Line with The Complete Answering Machine

Neither The Complete PC nor any of it's employees assume any
responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the
following information nor can the Complete PC technical support
provide help with this document.  The user of said information
does so at his or her own risk.

There are two ways to share a phone line with our 2 products.

A.  CAM answers the phone and greets your callers with the
default greeting from the CFAX mailbox:  "This line is normally
used for fax transmissions.  If you wish to leave a voice message
press 9 now".

                               OR
                                
B.  CAM answers the phone with your default greeting that you
have recorded, giving your callers instructions to press your
CFAX mailbox followed by the # sign to connect to your fax card.

Choice A is best to use if you have a lot of fax traffic.  A
standard fax machine would never press 9, so it would always get
your fax.  A human caller would understand the "press 9"
instruction, and get your CAM.

Choice B may be a better choice if you rarely receive faxes.  The
person who is trying to Fax to you must dial manually from their
fax machine and enter the touch-tones that correspond to your
CFAX mailbox.  If they were to fax to you automatically, their
transmission would always fail because CAM would be answering the
phone.

Set up for choice A
In your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, be sure that CFBACK is loaded before
ANSWER,

In the CAM Install program, make sure you let CAM know the CFAX
board is Installed and the 2 products will be sharing line.

Make sure CAM and CFAX are separated by at least 2 rings, with
CAM always the least amount of rings. (e.g. CAM at 3 rings, fax
at 5).  If you are using the toll saver function in CAM, separate
them by 3 rings.

In CAM, Personal Options, Answering mode, make sure fax is set at
default, Y.
In CAM, Mailbox Maintenance, add a mailbox for CFAX.  Our default
mailbox for CFAX is 2329 (spells CFAX on your touch-tone phone.)
You must tall CAM this is the CFAX mailbox.  You must have a CFAX
mailbox activated so the "this line is normally used for fax
transmission ..." greeting is played to your callers.  You may
record your own greeting for the "touch 9" instructions by
entering your CFAX mailbox and recording a new one, just like any
other mailbox.  Make sure CFAX is set for Answer the Phone, Y in
Answering Mode, under Personal Options.

Set up for choice B
In CAM, Personal Options, Answering Mode, make sure FAX is
default No.

Activate a CFAX mailbox. ( in CAM, mailbox maintenance, Add a
Mailbox)

Keep CFAX at Answer Automatically, NO. (In CFAX, System
Configuration)

As you can see, we only give you the ability to share a line.  We
do not detect voice/Fax tones then switch appropriately.  CAM
always drives the sharing of the line and your caller chooses the
option required.
