The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. What does the CFAX consist of ? A 3/4 length add in board with FAX modern chip and on-board micro- processor. RAM and ROM. Software to prepare, send, receive, view, scan and print faxes. What does CFAX require? An IBM PC, PC-XT, PC-AT, or 100% compatible A hard disk drive A DSDD or high capacity 5 1/4" floppy disk drive At least 512KB Of user installed RAM with 256KB available user RAM A VGA, EGA, CGA, or Hercules compatible graphics adapter MS-DOS or PC-DOS 3.1 or higher A standard telephone line with an RJ-11 or RJ-14 connection A telephone (for manual dialing) What fax machines Is CFAX compatible with? CFAX is compatable with CCITT Group III fax machines or fax boards. Does CFAX send, receive, print, and convert faxes in the background? Yes. You can run your normal software while you send and receive faxes. What is the maximum fax transmission speed? 4800 bits per second (BPS) Send/Receive for CFAX 9600 bits per second (BPS) Send/Receive for CFAX 9624 How much RAM does the background code require? 55KB of RAM to send, receive, and use the Hot Key. An additional 75KB of RAM is needed for automatic print. An additional 60KB of RAM is needed to convert files. NOTE: The additional RAM is Only needed during background print and convert. What is the fax resolution? 204 dots per inch horizontal by 98 dots per inch vertical in the standard mode or, 204 dots per inch horizontal by 196 dots per inch vertical in the fine mode. ASCII text files, EPSON FX print files, Dr Halo II, PCX, or MSP (Microsoft Windows Paint) Can files be scheduled for transmission? Yes. They can be scheduled by day, month, year, hour, and minute. Can files be sent to multiple recipients? Yes, and they can be selected from the dialing directory. Can multiple files be sent to a single recipient? Yes, and they can be selected from the FAX directory. Will the faxes be logged? Yes, both incoming and outgoing faxes will be date and time stamped and the status log can be printed and cleared. Will outgoing faxes have a header? Yes, if you enable this option Is a fax cover sheet included? Yes, this is optional with each outgoing fax. Can text and graphics be merged prior to faxing? Yes. Can the CFAX poll other CFAX boards? Yes, polling with password protection is supported between CFAX boards. Will failed fax transmissions be retried? Yes, with user selectable numbers of retries and time intervals between tries. Can I operate CFAX from the DOS prompt? Yes, you can send, convert to fax format, print, and view faxes from the DOS prompt. What image scanners does CFAX support directly from the CFAX software? The Complete Page Scanner Canon DEST Hewlett Packard ScanJet Microtek Will CFAX work with pulse or touch-tone dial phone systems? Yes. What type of phone system will CFAX work on? As a rule if you can put a modern on the phone system then the CFAX will work. Some phone systems won't work unless you use some type of adapter (i.e. AT&T Merlin requires a Basic Telephone Modern Interface to work). Does CFAX require a COM port. modern. or interrupt? No. However the FAX 9624 does require a Com port for the data modem section. This data modem uses either COM1 or COM2. The fax portion does not require a COM port Can CFAX be used as a modern for transmitting ASCII data? No, the CFAX modern is for faxes only, however, the CFAX 9624 has 2400 Baud Hayes compatible MNP data modem which will transmit ASCII data. NOTE: If the sending and receiving fax devices are both CFAX boards then you can transmit any DOS file using the DOS File Transfer feature (press F7 Special Features from the main menu to access). Can I send flies from my word processor or spreadsheet programs directly? Yes, by using the hot key feature and printing with the EPSON FX printer driver selected in your word processor or spreadsheet programs, you can send faxes while you continue to work in your program. Note: You must exit the application for the actual sending to take place. Can the fax cover sheet be personalized for each recipient? Yes, by selecting the names from the CFAX phone book the software will automatically mail merge the recipients' name, telephone number, and total page count into each cover sheet. You can even place your own Iogo into the cover sheet (pressing F7 Special Features, then press F7 System Configuration, then press F3 Cover Sheet Setup).
