What is the Sound Expression 14.4VSp? The Sound Expression provides Digital Sound controller for PC sound applications as well as a CD-ROM interface and Speaker Phone capability, integrated with a 14.4Kpbs Fax/Data/Voice modem. Includes comprehensive Voicemail, Sound, Fax and Data software for Windows. This unique design offers multiple functionality all in a single-board solution. 2. What audience is it targeted towards? The Sound Expression is targeted for Home and small office users. 3. How can the Sound Expression be helpful for me? The Sound Expression can transform your PC into a powerful multimedia communications workstation, providing voicemail, speakerphone, fax, data, plus 16-bit multimedia stereo sound all on a single card with full concurrent operation. 4. What kind of CD-ROM drives does the Sound Expression support? The Sound Expression supports Enhanced IDE CD-ROM drives as well as proprietary drives from Panasonic, Sony and Mitsumi. 2. Can I install the Sound Expression with an existing sound card already installed? No. The Sound Expression is a sound card. You cannot have more than one sound card installed in your system or they will conflict. 6. Will the Sound Expression work with SoundBlaster compatible games and applications? Yes. The Sound Expression is 100% SoundBlaster and SoundBlaster Pro compatible. 7. What Chipset does the Sound Expression use for the modem? Uses a Cirrus Logic CL-MD1414ECT chipset. 8. What chipset is used for sound and MIDI? Crystal OPL3 chipset. 9. What are the Pin-outs for the CD Audio connectors on the Sound Expression? What types of speakers are recommended? The Sound Expression can be used with either Amplified or Non- Amplified computer speakers. 13. Does the Sound Expression support a Wave Table add-on card? Yes. Any Waveblaster compatible wavetable card should work. We have tested cards from Crystal, Ensoniq, TurtleBeach, Creative Labs, Silicom and Genoa AudioBlitz Wave 32. 14. What External connectors are on the Sound Expression? RJ-11 for telephone line-in 1/8" Microphone Input 1/8" Line input 1/8" Line output 1/8" Speaker Input (for non-amplified speakers) Joystick / Midi port 15. How many phone lines does the Sound Expression support? The Sound Expression supports a Single phone line only. 16. Does the Sound Expression contain an on-board speaker for the modem? No. The sound Expression does not contain any on-board speaker. You must connect external speakers to the Sound Expression. 17. What is the recommended initilization string for the Sound Expression? AT&F&C1&D2\J0\Q3 18. Why can’t I play audio CDs? If you get the error "YOUR CD-ROM DRIVE IS NOT AVAILABLE" when trying to play audio CDs, then Windows [MCI] CD-Audio driver is not installed. The CD-Audio driver is supplied by Microsoft with Windows, but is not installed by d efault. To install the Windows CD- Audio driver, first go to Windows Control Panel and into DRIVERS. If you do not see the [MCI] CD-Audio driver listed, click on the Add button. You will then get a list of drivers which will include the [MCI] CD-Audio d river. You must then Add this driver and you will be prompted for your Windows diskettes to load the driver. Section C - Faxworks Voice Software by Global Village Communications ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Will Faxworks automatically detect between Voice and Fax calls? Yes. Faxworks will answer with the Main Greeting that you setup. At any time during the Main Greeting that Fax tones (or CNG tones) are detected, the fax will be received. There are some fax devices (very rare) that do not send CNG tones and Faxworks will not auto-detect the incoming fax. If a caller tries to send a fax from one of these fax devices, then they need to press the Zero key on the telephone before sending the fax. 2. How many Mailboxes can I have in Faxworks? You can have up to 5 quick Mailboxes setup (1-5). You can also have up to 1000 personal Mailboxes (6000-6999). 3. Is there a limit to the number of messages that Faxworks can take? No. The number of messages in Faxworks is only limited by hard disk space. However, through Mailbox Setup, the system administrator can limit the amount of hard drive space and the amount of time that each mailbox uses for messages. 4. Does Faxworks support Fax on Demand? Yes. The Fax on Demand feature allows callers to retrieve up to 10 Fax on Demand documents by listening to a brief description of each document and entering the corresponding document number from their touch tone phone. There is also a Document Retrieval feature which allows callers to retrieve up to 1000 password protected documents. 5. Can Faxworks page me on my Beeper when I receive a Message and/or Fax? Yes. Faxworks does have a Remote Notification feature that will beep your digital pager with either new messages, or new faxes, or both. 6. Faxworks will not answer on the number of rings I have set it to. Try turning off the Toll Saver option in the Voice Setup screen of Faxworks. With the Toll Saver turned on, the number of rings that Faxworks answers on will be doubled if there are no new messages or new Faxes waiting. 7. Can people with a rotary phone leave messages in Faxworks? Faxworks can only take messages from rotary phone callers if you have a Single mailbox setup. Once you setup multiple mailboxes, your callers must use a Touch Tone telephone to leave messages. 8. Faxworks pages me for every call, even hangups. If you have a single mailbox setup and Pager notification turned on, you will get paged for every call, even hangups. The work around is to setup a second mailbox and have it set for pager notification. Then if a caller hangs up during the Main Greeting, you will not get paged. You can have your Main Greeting instruct your callers to press the mailbox number to leave a message. 9. Should I set Faxworks as my default printer? No. If you print more than you fax. Yes. If you fax more than you print. 10. Can Faxworks forward my incoming faxes to another location? Yes. Faxworks does have the ability to automatically forward your incoming faxes to another fax device at another location. 11. Can I use Faxworks to call bulletin board services? Yes. Faxworks includes a data terminal for data communications, such as bulletin board services and file transfers. 12. Does Faxworks need to be running to receive faxes? Yes. The Faxworks application must be running to receive faxes. 13. Can I fax my existing documents directly from my word processor application? Faxworks allows you to fax directly from any Windows applications, so you can fax your existing documents directly from the Windows word processor you already use. 14. Will Faxworks fax from DOS applications. No. Faxworks is a Windows application and only has the ability to fax from Windows applications. 15. How do I manually receive a fax? There is a manual receive option in the Command Button that appears in the Title Bar of each active window. There is also a manual receive option is in the Fax Viewer screen. From the viewer screen pull down the FAX menu and go to Manual Receive.
