Windows '95 Home/Fax Modem (MV.34AI) Installation. 1.) Go to the Add New Hardware Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add New Hardware). 2.) You will be asked "Do you want Windows to search for your new Hardware?" You do not. Select "No" and then select "Next->" 3.) Scroll down to the portion labeled "Ports (COM & LPT)". Double Click "Ports". 4.) Select Standard Communication Port on the next screen, then select the "Have Disk" button. 5.) This will bring up a dialog box allowing you to browse to where the files are. It defaults to the "A:" drive. 6.) Insert the driver disk into the Floppy Drive if you have one, **OR** Use the "Browse" Button to go to the directory where the files are located on the Hard Disk, if you downloaded them and Unzipped them - ***NOTE: This cannot be the root directory of the startup disk! The Driver Files should be listed as either "Modem Port" or "MV34AI or FDVSP34AI Port". Make the appropriate selection and select OK. 7.) Select "Next->" when it brings you back to the Driver's screen, and it will tell you that "Windows can install the hardware using the following settings", write them down, then select Next->. 8.) It will then tell you that it is installing the software and setting up the drivers. When it finishes, select "Finish->" 9.) It will tell you that you have to shut your computer off and install the hardware. If you have already installed the hardware once, you only need to remove the hardware to ensure that the jumpers are set on the modem to whatever settings Windows '95 gave you. 10.)Set the Jumpers on the modem to the settings Windows gave you. If it gave you 2 Input Output Addresses and 2 IRQ's, use the lowest address (such as 0180h) 11.) Plug the modem into any available ISA slot, and attach the phone cord to the jack on the modem marked "LINE" 12.) Restart the machine. 13.) Go BACK to the Add New Hardware Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add New Hardware). 14.) You will be asked "Do you want Windows to search for your new Hardware?" You do not. Select "No" and then select "Next->" 15.) Scroll down to the portion labeled "Modems". Double Click "Modems". 16.) Select the "Have Disk" button. 17.) This will bring up a dialog box allowing you to browse to where the modem files are. It again defaults to the "A:" drive. 18.) Insert the driver disk into the Floppy Drive if you have one, **OR** Use the "Browse" Button to go to the directory where the files are located on the Hard Disk, if you downloaded them and Unzipped them - ***NOTE: This cannot be the root directory of the startup disk! The Driver Files should be listed as the actual modem (mv.34ai/fdvsp34ai or similar). Make the appropriate selection for the actual modem you have and select OK. 19.) Select "Next->" when it brings you back to the Driver's screen, and it will Install the modem for you. 20.) It will then tell you that it is installing the software and setting up the drivers. When it finishes, select "Finish->" 21.) Restart the machine again. 22.) When it's done restarting, go to the Modems Control Panel. 23.) Select Diagnostics. 24.) Select the appropriate COM port for your modem. 25.) Select "More Info". It should say that it is communicating with the modem, and it may take a few minutes. After that, it should come up with a screen that has several ATi commands listed (Ati2 through ATi7, plus AT+fclass=) There should be responses to each, with ATi7 being "ERROR" (it's simply an unimplemented function).
