What is the Complete Office Communicator? The CCO14I is a 14.4 Voice/Fax/Data modem with Full Duplex speakerphone and Plug and Play capabilities. Bundled with sophisticated voicemail software. 2. How can the Complete Office Communicator be helpful for me? The CCO14I transforms your PC into your own office communications center. With sophisicated call processing capabilities, including full duplex speakerphone, professional voicemail, and fast 14.4Kbps send/receive fax and data communications. 3. What software is bundled with the Complete Offices Communicator? - Faxworks Voice software for Windows by Global Village Communications - CCO14I Driver and Utilities diskette - Online services diskettes 4. Where can the Complete Office Communicator be purchased? What kind of warranty does the Complete Office Communicator have? All Boca Reseach products carry a five-year warranty. Section B - Hardware Questions --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. What are the specifications of this modem? - This modem supports up to 14.4Kbps data and fax transmissions. - Maximum throughput up to 57,600bps with data compression - Supports EIA/TIA 592 Class 2 fax specifications - Group 3 send and receive fax capability - Protocol compatibility: V.32bis, V.32, V.22bis, V.22, V.21; Bell 212A, Bell 103; V.42/MNP2-4, V.42bis/MNP5; V.17, V.29, V.27ter, V.21 channel 2 2. What hardware settings does the Complete Office Communicator support? - Com port: 1, 2, 3 or 4 - Com IRQ: 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 or 12 - Voice IRQ: 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 or 12 - Voice DMA: 1 or 3 3. What chipset does the Complete Office Communicator use? Sierra SC11140CQ Chipset 4. Why does the Complete Office Communicator use a driver? This modem is software configured through plug and play. If you do not have a plug and play motherboard or a plug and play operating system (like Windows 95), then you need to install the plug and play driver to configure the modem. 6. What is the best com port for this modem? After installing the modem in your system, you should run intallation utility from the Driver and Utilities disk. The installation utility will examine your system and determine what settings to configure the modem for. 7. How do I configure third party communications software to operate with the CCO14I? Most communications software will have an option for a Hayes Compatible modem. This is the best setting for the CCO14I. Do not select a Boca 14.4, because the CCO14I uses different set of commands than other Boca 14.4 Fax/modems. 9. What is the recommended initilization string for the CCO14I? AT&F&C1&D2\Q3 You may need to add ^M to the end of this initilization string if your software requires it for a carriage return. 10. Should I install the WAV driver for the CCO14I? No. If you already have a sound card or other device that plays WAV files. Yes. If you do not have an existing sound card or other device that plays WAV files. Section C - Faxworks Voice Software by Global Village Communications ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Can I use Faxworks to call bulletin board services? Yes. Faxworks includes a data terminal for data communications, such as bulletin board services and file transfers. 2. Does Faxworks need to be running to receive faxes? Yes. The Faxworks application must be running to receive faxes. 3. Can I fax my existing documents directly from my word processor application? Faxworks allows you to fax directly from any Windows applications, so you can fax your existing documents directly from the Windows word processor you already use. 4. Will Faxworks fax from DOS applications. No. Faxworks is a Windows application and only has the ability to fax from Windows applications. 5. How do I manually receive a fax? There is a manual receive option in the Command Button that appears in the Title Bar of each active window. There is also a manual receive option is in the Fax Viewer screen. From the viewer screen pull down the FAX menu and go to Manual Receive. 6. Will Faxworks automatically detect between Voice and Fax calls? Yes. Faxworks will answer with the Main Greeting that you setup. At any time during the Main Greeting that Fax tones (or CNG tones) are detected, the fax will be received. There are some fax devices (very rare) that do not send CNG tones and Faxworks will not auto-detect the incoming fax. If a caller tries to send a fax from one of these fax devices, then they need to press the Zero key on the telephone before sending the fax. 7. How many Mailboxes can I have in Faxworks? You can have up to 5 quick Mailboxes setup (1-5). You can also have up to 1000 personal Mailboxes (6000-6999). 8. Is there a limit to the number of messages that Faxworks can take? No. The number of messages in Faxworks is only limited by hard disk space. However, through Mailbox Setup, the system administrator can limit the amount of hard drive space and the amount of time that each mailbox uses for messages. 9. Does Faxworks support Fax on Demand? Yes. The Fax on Demand feature allows callers to retrieve up to 10 Fax on Demand documents by listening to a brief description of each document and entering the corresponding document number from their touch tone phone. There is also a Document Retrieval feature which allows callers to retrieve up to 1000 password protected documents. 10. Can Faxworks page me on my Beeper when I receive a Message and/or Fax? Yes. Faxworks does have a Remote Notification feature that will beep your digital pager with either new messages, or new faxes, or both. 11. Faxworks will not answer on the number of rings I have set it to. Try turning off the Toll Saver option in the Voice Setup screen of Faxworks. With the Toll Saver turned on, the number of rings that Faxworks answers on will be doubled if there are no new Messages or new Faxes waiting. 12. Can people with a rotary phone leave messages in Faxworks? Faxworks can only take messages from rotary phone callers if you have a Single mailbox setup. Once you setup multiple mailboxes, your callers must use a Touch Tone telephone to leave messages. 13. Faxworks pages me for every call, even hangups. If you have a single mailbox setup and Pager notification turned on, you will get paged for every call, even hangups. The work around is to setup a second mailbox and have it set for pager notification. Then if a caller hangs up during the Main Greeting, you will not get paged. You can have your Main Greeting instruct your callers to press the mailbox number to leave a message. 14. Should I set Faxworks as my default printer? No. If you print more than you fax. Yes. If you fax more than you print. 15. Can Faxworks forward my incoming faxes to another location? Yes. Faxworks does have the ability to automatically forward your incoming faxes to another fax device at another location.
