The IBM Standalone Diagnostics CD-ROM provides hardware diagnostics and service-related utilities for POWER, PowerPC, eServer i5 system with common pSeries I/O, and RS/6000-based systems. The preferred method for diagnosing and servicing these systems is to use the concurrent diagnostics and service-related utilities that are installed with the operating system on the system or partition. However, the standalone diagnostics CD-ROM would be used in the following situations when it makes sense to test the hardware independent of the operating system:

When there is no operating system installed on a system or partition 
When the operating system does not have support for the service related function you wish to perform 
When there may be a problem with the boot device 
When the service documentation specifically recommends running standalone diagnostics 
Updates are released periodically to support new systems and devices.

Determine which diagnostic CD-ROM to use and download. The downloaded file must be burned onto a CD-ROM. Refer to the Documentation for information on how to use the hardware diagnostic CD-ROM.

 If you have an eServer pSeries or RS/6000 that does NOT have firmware level upgraded to a level compatible with running AIX 5.3.0.0, then choose this image.

 Burning the CD ISO image onto a CDROM 
 

The instructions below are for use with the Adaptec Easy CD Creator software. If you are using a different CD-ROM burner program, please refer to the instructions for your CD burner's software to learn how to create a CD-ROM from an ISO disc image file. 
 
Follow these steps to extract an .iso file using Adaptec Easy CD Creator software on your IBM PC: 
1. Download the .iso image file to your local hard disk drive. 
2. Start the Adaptec Easy CD Creator program. 
3. Select the option to create a Data CD. 
4. Insert a blank CD into your CD-Recorder drive. 
5. Click File, then click Create CD from CD Image... the "Open File" dialog box will appear. 
6. Change "Files of Type" to ISO Image Files (*.iso). 
7. Select the filename and location of the .iso file you downloaded, then click Open. A box entitled "CD Creation Setup" will appear. 
8. Select the Advanced tab, then select Close Disc. 
9. Click OK from the "CD Creation Setup" box to begin creating the CD. 
10. When the CD is finished, a final dialog box will appear to notify you that the recording is complete. 
11. Label the CD-ROM with the appropriate version number.
