STUCK HDD HEADS Yes, it sounds like the drive is drawing too much power trying to spin up, which would suggest that the heads are stuck to the platter. A couple of approaches have been recommended by people in the past to try to "free" stuck heads: (1) Put the drive in a heavy-duty freezer ZipLock bag, and suck out as much air as you can. Place the drive in the freezer overnight, then let it come back to room temperature, remove it from the bag and try it in the machine. The theory behind this is that the differing rates of "shrinkage" from the cold for the platter and the heads might break the heads free from the surface. (2) Tap the side of the drive with the butt end of a large screwdriver. The theory behind this act is that the vibrations from the tapping will break the heads free. The good news is that if these techniques don't work, you're not "out" anything other than a bit of your time. If the drive can't be revived, someone in this group or the comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware newsgroup can probably sell you a suitable replacement hard drive. Rick Ekblaw
