The SOLARIS directory only contain this file. The latest versions of these files are contained on the AdvanSys FTP and BBS sites. If the date listed in the SOLARIS.TXT file is more than a few months old, please check the FTP or BBS site for a newer version of the driver. SOLARIS.TXT Installation Instructions SOLARIS.EXE DOS Executable File with 3 Floppy Disk Images and RAWRITE.EXE Supported Adapters ================== The CDB counts below indicate the number of SCSI CDB (Command Descriptor Block) requests that can be stored in the RISC chip cache and board LRAM. A CDB is a single SCSI command. This value can be lowered in the BIOS by changing the 'Host Queue Size' adapter setting. Instructions for creating the ASC Universal Driver Diskettes using DOS ====================================================================== The file SOLARIS.EXE is a self-extracting archive which contains images of three Solaris 1.44 MB diskettes. The first two images are for DOS FAT diskettes and the third image contains a cpio archive. The three diskette images must be copied to 3.5" diskettes to run a Solaris install. If you intend to install the ASC driver to an existing Solaris 2.5 system then only the third diskette is needed. 1. Copy the file SOLARIS.EXE to a DOS system. 2. Type the command SOLARIS.EXE. The following four files will be created: BOOT1.DAT First Stage Boot Floppy with AdvanSys Realmode ASC.BEF Driver BOOT2.DAT Second Stage Boot Floppy with AdvanSys Native ASC Driver DRVUPD.DAT Solaris Driver Update Image with AdvanSys Native ASC Driver RAWRITE.EXE DOS Executable to transfer file images to a diskette 3. For each image insert a blank formatted diskette in a 3.5" floppy disk drive and create the diskettes with these commands. Label the diskettes ASC BOOT1, ASC BOOT2, and ASC Driver Update. RAWRITE BOOT1.DAT A: RAWRITE BOOT2.DAT A: RAWRITE DRVUPD.DAT A: Installing the ASC Driver during Solaris Installation ===================================================== You must use install Solaris 2.5 x86 Edition in combination with the AdvanSys driver. 1. Insert the Solaris 2.5 x86 Edition Installation CD into a CD-ROM and insert the ASC BOOT1 diskette into the first floppy drive. 2. The system should boot off the floppy. The AdvanSys Realmode driver ASC.BEF driver will recognize the installed AdvanSys adapter and the boot procedure will indicate that ASC.BEF has been loaded. 3. Later during the install procedure you will prompted to install the second boot diskette (ASC BOOT2) and then the Driver Update diskette (ASC Driver Update). 4. The installation procedure will automatically add the AdvanSys driver to the installed system. There is no need to re-add the driver after the installation has completed. Installing the ASC Driver after Solaris has already been Installed ================================================================== You must already have installed Solaris 2.5 x86 Edition. 1. Boot the Solaris system and login as root. 2. Insert the ASC Driver Update diskette in the first floppy disk drive. 3. Type the following commands to extract the Driver Update image to the directory /tmp/drivers. If the directory already exists use a different name. mkdir /tmp/drivers; cd /tmp/drivers; cpio -idumv < /dev/diskette0 4. Run the driver update shell script. This command will apply the latest driver update and then install the ASC driver. This command may take as long as 30 minutes to run: ./installdu.sh 5. Reboot your Solaris system and use the boot command 'b -r' at the boot prompt to reconfigure the system. The '-r' option will cause the /devices and /dev directories to be rebuilt. Installing SCSI Devices under Solaris ===================================== SCSI Disk and CD-ROM devices are controlled by the same target driver cmdk(7d). Device files are of the form: /dev/[r]dsk/c[0-9]t[0-7]d[0-9]s[0-f] SCSI Tape drives are controlled by st(7d). Device files are of the form: /dev/[n]rmt/[0-9] If you add or remove a SCSI device reboot your Solaris system and use the boot command 'b -r' at the boot prompt to reconfigure the system. This will cause the /devices and /dev directories to be rebuilt.
