At this moment I'm "playing" with a PS/2 System 95a. (9595-S03 55-8t4y4) with a process board 06h7095. (Was a 90Mhz, at the moment it works at 133Mhz)[¹] The machine works very well, apart one "fastidious" thing: Immediateli before the boot on Win NT 4.0 on the front display... Appear a fastidious [CP: 6E] I repeat, the system 95 work nice, but... I searched in "specialized sites" [²] But I'm afraid, I don't understand if 95 need IML partition or not. I readed tha this machine is a "Bios and Setup on Flash" But IML? I have in this machine a SCSI controller, Future Domain Fast SCSI-2 Adapter MCS-700 (@60E9.ADF) But, when I try to restore the system partition, system say me that this machine is not.... (I don't remumber all the messages) Where is the matter?? SCSI controller, planar, complex?? How can I create an "IML partition"? After all: Is in what I explained You the problem or I'm looking in the wrong direction?? If You need more infos, mine address is valid! (I filter all on mine machine in house) [¹] I done all the modification I founded in Mcamafia.de and others,[³] as the two wires for the Vcc regulator of the CPU, changed the Heatsink, placed over the CPU one "Biggest Heatsink" with fan etc. /etc and etcetera... ;-) [²] Thanks you for all the specialized sites. ^__^ [³] Many others, and I'm newly remercing You for all Your working to save this pieces of story!! If the computer runs, I would not worry about this. I have at least one here that will display odd characters on the panel after booting. It runs, so I do not worry. > But I'm afraid, I don't understand if 95 need IML partition or not. > I readed tha this machine is a "Bios and Setup on Flash" > But IML? Maybe this will help you understand: Some systems in the PS/2 line get their working BIOS from a special hidden place on the hard drive. These are called IML systems...for Initial Microcode Load. Some systems that use this function are the Models 56, 57, 76 "Bermuda", 77 "Bermuda" and the Model 95 with complex types 1-3. (I'm generalizing a bit here...there do exist some exceptions to this rule. There are also some other models that use IML.) Your system has a Type 4 complex (=processor card) and it does not need or use IML. It has a flashable BIOS right on the complex. However, this computer can make use of the hidden portion of the hard disk for a so-called "convenience partition". This "convenience partition" gives you a nice place to maintain copies of the reference and diagnostic diskettes. There is one more detail. You need a SCSI controller that can support the 'tricks' needed to make this function work. This is why you get an error...only IBM SCSI controllers support this function. No others will do. Simply put: You do not need anything involving IML on your system. However, you can have an optional "convenience partition" that's hidden like IML would be but only stores copies of your reference and diagnostics disks. If you do need IML and you do not have it, your system will not work. I hope this has been understandable and useful to you. :-) William
