SET UP PRINTER AIX 4.3.3.0
Best to use a printer with drivers already in AIX. Look at the list on CD3 of the 4 CD installation set. I chose the HP LaserJet 4+, was cheap on Ebay.
Be sure printer will go throught its own self tests and works okay.
Have printer connected to RS6000 and turned on. In fact it should be on with all other pheriphials before RS6000 is fired up.

Install driver
#smit mkpg
accept local printer
hewlett packard/hplj-4+
put CD3 into drive
hit enter to install driver software
input device/directory    CD0
under software to install hit LIST
find HP4+ (make sure you chose English version)
when finished take CD3 out of drive

Install Printer
#smit/devices/print-plotter/add printer
accept HP4+
accept parallel
accept ppa0 adapter
under port number hit LIST and accept p
all other option left as is
get smit going and it should say
lp0 available

Install Printer Queque
#smit/devices/print spool/add a print que
accept local
accept HP
accept HP4+
accept existing printer on lp0 ie HP4+
in PCL box I gave the queque the name HP4PCL
leave all other options as is
get swmit going and it says
added print queque HP4PCL

Now to do Printer Settings
#smit/devices/printspool/change show print queque characteristics
accept HP4PCL
accept printer setup
change paper size to A4 in four places
I did not change any other settings
get smit going.
logout and log on
use a text editor with some junk typed in it and then print out to test.
