Information about V4 Attributes accessible in the Properties dialog box

This task shows you how you can find information about V4 Models (Attributes) opened in CATIA V5. The new Attribute tab, in the Properties dialog box, allows the user to access the V4 elements' attributes in CATIA V5.

Attributes are attached to V4 elements in CATIA V4. An element can have from 0 to n attached attributes.
An attribute has a name and a value that can be:

  • a Character String,
  • a Real,
  • an Integer,
  • a Boolean,
  • or a Discreet.

The attribute editor is a Property tab, entitled Attribute, showing all the attributes of the selected V4 elements. It is a list with 4 columns indicating:

  • The V4 element aggregating the attribute. It allows the user to see the element to which the attribute is aggregated, when more than one element is selected.
  • The format of the attribute (a Character String, a Real, an Integer, a Boolean or a Discreet).
  • The name of the attribute.
  • The value of the attribute.

The Attribute tab is shown in the Properties window only if the selected objects aggregate one or more attributes.

When more than one element is selected, the user can choose to see the attributes of all selected objects or the attributes of an individual object.

Open a model in CATIA V5 or inserted in a CATProduct.
  1. Select a V4 element (any element except *MASTER) and the Properties contextual command. The Properties window appears.

  2. Press the Attribute tab and you can see:

  3. In the combo box entitled Current selection, you can choose an automatic selection to see the attributes of All the selected elements or an individual selection to see the attributes of a single element.

  4. You can also reorder the elements of the list by clicking the columns' titles. The first click allows to order the corresponding elements in alphabetic order. The second click inverses the order.
