Displaying Tolerances

This task concerns only the dimension constraints of the sketcher and shows you how to edit the tolerance values of dimensional constraints.

In the Sketcher, tolerances are only displayed but are are not taken into account when solving dimension values. Tolerance values displayed in the Sketcher can be managed by 3d Functional Tolerancing and Annotations product, which is dedicated to tolerance management.

Create a sketch with dimensions.

  1. Click Edit Multi-Constraint from the Constraint toolbar.

  1. Select the Constraints for which you want to set tolerances. Change the Maximum or Minimum tolerance editing field content with the spinners or enter a value.

Tolerance can also be added using the contextual menu. Right-click the Current value field to display the contextual menu and select Add tolerance. Tolerance dialog box will be displayed. Enter the Maximum and Minimum tolerance values.

The
changes done outside the multi-edit panel are automatically and instantly updated into it.

  1. Click OK. Tolerances are displayed on the sketch with the corresponding dimension.

Modifying a tolerance

Like when adding a tolerance, there are two ways of modifying a tolerance: from inside the multi-edit dialog box, and from outside. It works exactly the same way as above, except that when you select a constraint for which a tolerance exists, it modifies the existing tolerance instead of creating a new one.

To get access to the outside tolerance edit dialog, right-click on the current value editing field and choose Tolerance > Edit.

Deleting a tolerance

To suppress an existing tolerance, you must right-click on the current value editing field and choose Tolerance > Suppress.

Restoring a tolerance

In the Edit Multi-Constraint dialog box, like for initial values, you can restore the tolerances. This applies to the selected constraint. Basically, it restores the tolerance to its initial state, when the multi-edit command was launched.

You can do that by pushing the Restore Initial Tolerances button.

If tolerances did not exist, and were created later on, they will be deleted.

If tolerances did exist, and were deleted or modified later on, they will be restored to their initial values.

Multi-selection

Multi-selection is also possible. The action is performed for all the selected constraints.

The tolerances will be displayed on the sketch with the corresponding dimension.

  • The display of the tolerances and their edition in the multi-edit command is done only for dimension constraints of the sketches.

  • The display of the tolerances is not done as in the standards, since it is just a way to have a global view of tolerances.
