Write performance on mirrored disks can be increased significantly by turning off the "Mirrored Write Consistency" (MWC) option. However, doing so increases exposure to data corruption, and introduces management issues. The attached file discusses managing AIX mirrored disk drives with MWC off. Although written for Oracle databases, many of the concepts are universal.
