ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT The following discusses the software and procedures needed to setup both man pages and InfoExplorer in AIX versions 3.2.x and 4.x systems from the Technical Library CDROM. AIX Technical Library is a reference library of comprehen- sive AIX service and support information. This library uti- lizes InfoExplorer as its search mechanism. SETTING UP MAN PAGES AND INFOEXPLORER Prerequisites: o You must have the Technical Library CDROM. o You must have root user authority or be a member of the system group to create and mount the CD-ROM file system. o The LANG variable in your environment must be set to the correct value, En_US (3.2.x) or en_US (4.x) for English. To display the variable, type "echo $LANG" and press . Use the command "smit chlang" to change the LANG variable. STEPS FOR SETTING UP MAN PAGES AND INFOEXPLORER You must have a cdrom filesystem with a mount point of /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib. If not, you may have to umount an existing cdrom, remove the filesystem and recreate one at the techlib mount point. Once the filesystem exists, mount cdrom and test. 1. If it's necessary to free up the cdrom drive for the techlib cdrom, determine which device to free up, type "umount /dev/" and press . a. Remove any prior versions of AIX Technical Library (or InfoExplorer) from the CDROM drive and insert the new version of AIX Technical Library. 2. What is the mount point of your CDROM filesystem? Set up Man Pages 1 InfoExplorer Using TECHLIB CDROM 1 01/30/96, 4FAX# 5103 a. If this is NOT your first Techlib CD, the mount point of your CDROM filesystem should already be /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib, and you may proceed to step 5. b. If you have a CDROM filesystem defined, and the mount point is not /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib (e.g., it might be /usr/lpp/info/En_US), you must remove this CDROM filesystem and create one with a mount point of /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib. Proceed to step 3. c. If you have NO CDROM filesystem defined on your machine, you must create one with a mount point of /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib. Proceed to step 4. 3. Remove old filesystem if it exists. a. Type "smit -C rmcdrfs" and press . b. Press to select the proper CDROM filesystem. c. Press to delete the CDROM filesystem. d. Press to exit SMIT. 4. Create the new CDROM filesystem. a. Type "cd /usr/lpp/info/data" and press . b. Type "mkdir techlib" and press . c. Type "smit -C cdrfs" and press . d. Press to select the proper device (example, cd0). e. Fill in the "MOUNT POINT" field with /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib. f. Change "Mount AUTOMATICALLY at system restart" from no to yes. g. Press to create the CDROM filesystem. h. Press to exit SMIT. 5. Mount the new CD: a. Ensure that the AIX Technical Library CD is in the CD drive. b. Type "mount /dev/cd0" and press to mount the AIX Technical Library CD. Proceed to the appropriate directions below to access the Hypertext Information Base Library and AIX Technical Library, based on your level of the AIX Operating System. Set up Man Pages 2 InfoExplorer Using TECHLIB CDROM 2 01/30/96, 4FAX# 5103 c. Ensure that the CDROM filesystem has been created as described above. d. Type "cd /usr/lpp/info/data" and press . e. Type "cp ispaths ispaths.back" and press . f. If you are running AIX 3.2, type "cd /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib/aix325" and press . g. If you are running AIX 4.1, type "cd /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib/aix41" and press . h. Type "cp ispaths /usr/lpp/info/data/ispaths" and press . VERIFICATION PROCEDURES FOR AIX TECHNICAL LIBRARY. 1. This step will verify that the AIX Systems Center Q&A database and the AIX Version 3 APAR databases are both available. Type: info -l techlib If the Release notes appear, the installation was suc- cessful. 2. This step will verify that the Hypertext Information Base Library databases are accessible. Invoke InfoExplorer by typing info If InfoExplorer comes up, it is installed correctly.
