If you don't know how to use DOS, you will need to consult the reference manual. No DOS configuration information (how to write an autoexec.bat, etc.) is given beyond that which is needed to get the C drive ready for PCSIM. This document is applicable to AIX version 3.2. To configure PCSIM, you will need to have a DOS startup disk. STEPS Steps to Configure DOS for PCSIM: 1. Create the C drive. Once you have decided where you are going to locate the C drive, you will need create an empty file. You can do this by typing the following (it is assumed that you want to place the C drive in the /home directory): touch /home/dos.33 NOTE: To make the C drive available to all users on the system, you could create a /pcsim file system and install the C drive in that file system. The advantages of this installation are numerous. If you decide to do this, logically substitute that file system name for /home in the rest of this fax. For each user you should create a D drive (as a directory, not a file). The C drive should be marked read only. PCSIM Install Instruction 1 09/26/96, 2. Start the configuration process. At this point you will need to put your startup DOS disk in the drive. Once the disk is in the drive, type the following at the AIX command line: pcsim -Adiskette 3 -Cdrive /home/dos.33 dmode m -save $HOME/simprof The floppy drive light will come on and, after some delay, the DOS prompt A> will appear. NOTE: If you are using DOS Version 4.0 you will be placed in the SELECT program. Hit ESC and F3 to exit the SELECT program and get to the A>. 3. Define the C drive to DOS. Once you are at the A> prompt type the DOS command fdisk This command will ask you to create a primary DOS parti- tion and will ask you the size you want your DOS drive to be. Follow the prompts and make the partition. Make the partition active and then press Enter to reboot the partition. 4. Format the C drive and place the system on it. Once the DOS portion has rebooted, you should again have an A> prompt. At the prompt type the following DOS command: format c:/s This will format the C drive and put the system on the C drive so that this is a bootable hard disk. REMOVE THE DISK FROM THE FLOPPY DRIVE. ______________________________________ 5. End PCSIM and test to make sure the C drive is bootable. Once the the format is complete, exit PCSIM by hitting the ESC key and typing PCSIM. Change directory to /home (cd $home) and type "pcsim". The PCSIM product should come up and you should have a C> prompt. 6. Consult Info-Explorer or your DOS manual for information on how to use DOS or other PCSIM flags and setup options.
